Tell Congress to Pass President Obama's Budget

Take Action - Photo of the U.S. Capitol Building.

President Obama has given Congress a remarkable budget proposal that mends our nation's deep economic wounds with clean energy investments that create jobs and combat global warming.

It's an incredible opportunity to make environmental protection a fundamental part of how our country does business.

But, even as you read this, your congressional representatives are struggling with how to vote.

Doing the right thing means voting against an economic tradition of spending with little or no consideration of what it does to the earth. There are many well-monied voices at your congressperson's ear right now, urging a vote to stay with the past—a past they are dependent on.

Let's break our country's dependence on this oil-and-coal-soaked past. Join with us and make your voice heard in the halls of Congress.

The president's proposal is a blueprint for action to combat global warming through an emissions cap-and-trade system that will generate hundreds of billions of dollars to invest in clean energy and energy efficiency, protect our natural resources, assist consumers and support adaptation at home and abroad.

President Obama has demonstrated his commitment to action on these issues by assuming $646 billion in revenue over 10 years from reducing global warming pollution.

About $80 billion of the dollars allocated in his plan for fiscal 2010 will help create an estimated 1.6 million green jobs across sectors including clean energy, transit and green infrastructure.

This proposal is a step towards solving global warming and building the resources to invest in the transition to a clean energy economy.

Ask Congress today to cast the right vote—and support this precedent-setting budget.

Subject: Include President's Climate Priorities in Congressional Budget

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing to urge you to reflect the priority President Obama placed on climate in his proposed budget as you craft and pass the FY2010 budget.

The president's plan creates a new energy economy, which will in turn create jobs, improve national security, and protect our planet.

The science continues to convey the necessity of taking swift action to address climate change, and the president's budget supports this while also stimulating the economy.

The proposed budget includes about $80 billion allocated specifically for creating 1.6 million green jobs across sectors including clean energy, transit and green infrastructure.

By assuming revenue from a cap-and-trade system, the president is enabling billions of dollars to be generated and invested in clean energy and energy efficiency, protecting our natural resources, assisting consumers and supporting adaptation at home and abroad.

This proposal is a step towards solving global warming and building the resources to invest in the transition to a clean energy economy. Please make addressing global warming a priority for our nation, for our children and their future by passing a budget that answers President Obama's call for action.

Sincerely,
