Tell the Department of Energy: Prioritize Energy Efficiency!

Take Action

During the presidential debates, President-elect Obama said energy policy will be a top priority of his administration. One of the most effective ways to cut energy costs, reduce our electricity consumption, and save us all money every month on our utility bills is to adopt the strongest energy efficiency standards for household appliances and commercial products. Energy efficiency is America's first fuel, the fastest, cleanest and cheapest energy source.

Right now, the Department of Energy is considering a new standard for fluorescent tube lights and other kinds of light bulbs that over the next three decades will save enough energy to power every household in America for an entire year, and net customers and business over $66 billion in savings.

The final decision comes out in June 2009, but we need to send a strong message now to the DOE and to Obama that energy efficiency must be at the top of our nation's energy priorities. We need to make our appliances and products run better by using less energy, and President-elect Obama has the opportunity to lead us towards this goal.

During his first term as president, Obama will have the opportunity to adopt many more of these energy efficiency standards for appliances such as refrigerators, clothes washers, air conditioners and water heaters. The savings for consumers and businesses is staggering, and the potential for these new standards to help jumpstart a new energy economy is limitless. Now is the time to be proactive. Tell President-elect Obama and all our government officials that energy efficiency is the fastest, cheapest, cleanest energy source. Let's get started today!
