"A hell of a lot of species are in big trouble."
On December 5, the Associated Press ran a story entitled "Global Warming Wreaks Havoc With Nature," by Michael Casey, on the threats to wildlife all around the world from climate change. It ran in dozens of papers across the country -- see the list below for your local newspaper.
If this (or a similar) article ran in your paper, it is a perfect opportunity to write a letter to the editor. Just mention the article and the date, and explain why protecting wildlife from global warming is so important to you!
"In the long run, every species will be affected."

Learn more about the threats to wildlife from global warming here.
More talking points:
- Polar bears, beloved by all Americans, may soon be listed under the Endangered Species Act because of the sea ice melting beneath their feet. Hundreds of other species are also feeling the effects of global warming.
- Congress is currently considering new global warming legislation. Efforts to help wildlife and plants must be a key part of these efforts.
- The crucial round of global climate talks in Bali (December 2007) are an important step forward. Attention should be paid to the wildlife and plants suffering all over the world. (Did your paper run a story about this?)
- The latest UN IPCC report (pdf) said that in some regions up to 60 percent of wildlife and plants could go extinct due to global warming.
- Endangered and threatened species deserve special attention: they are already at the brink of extinction and it will not take much to push them over the edge.
